Weight restrictions for flying on airlines seems a little unfair

Views from above so I've decided to tackle the weight issues on planes. My luggage can top out at 50lbs. So 2 bags + me (150lbs) = 250lbs allowed when flying. So the 250lbs person sitting next to me gets an extra 100lbs of weight over me. Seems a little unfair right?

Why can't the airlines who are so concerned with weight give folks pricing based on how much total weight they will be flying through the air. So my total weight of 250lbs would cost me say $500 round trip to fly to Hawaii. From 250-350lbs would pay $600 and 350-450lbs would pay $700.

I'm sure the airlines can figure out down to the dollar each pound cost to fly and then charge customers accordingly. They can then factor in where they are flying and the distance.

Easy for me because I happen to weigh around 160lbs and would love the discounted tickets. I earned it....by eating right and exercising my whole life and along with good health can't I get some other benefits?

As I pack for another trip and break out my scale to make sure I show up to the airport under the 50lbs, I think about my fellow passengers. They will be stopping by In and Out before the flight and adding a few more pounds to our flight.

This concept is not discrimination it is simple math. You pay for how much weight you want to bring. If you happen to weigh 300lbs well then I guess you'd better pack a little lighter to keep your cost down.

If I want to ship a package via UPS or FedEx guess what????? I'll be charged based on where it's going and........ you guessed it....how much it weighs!!!

It's time for the airlines to address this issue and stop worrying about discrimination and face the fact of weight vs. cost of flying. If the airlines are so sensitive to weight then why are they not addressing this very basic concept? When I check my bags in and if they are over by 5lbs the airlines will charge me extra but the 250lbs person behind me does not pay extra??

Hate to point out the obvious but it's really time to charge based on your overall impact on the flight. When you go online to buy airline tickets they will need to add just one extra drop down box for weight. When you show up to the ticket and you are over the amount you put down when purchased.....you pay more period. I'd even be ok with a 10lbs +/- rule on this.

Look around the next time you're at the airport and see if get what I'm saying and let me know your thoughts.

Tiradentes Square

November 2011 this photo was taken while we were on vacation. Directly behind me is the street from the other picture. The other picture showing my beautiful wife is from the top of a hill looking down towards the trees and centre square. Brasil has so many historical cities and I plan to add a photo and story of the ones I've been to. This is really going to help in my quest to hit 12 blogs in 2012. The city if filled with great places to eat, shop and of course photograph. There are some very old and beautiful churches here as well.

Tiradentes or 'tooth puller' is the other name for Joaquim José da Silva Xavier; a revolutionary figure of Brasil who wanted to make Brasil independent.

Brasil is with an 's' and only the US likes to 'Americanize' it with a 'z' but the great people of Brasil seem ok with it.

Tiradentes is about 1/2 way to Rio (another route) from the city of Belo Horizonte. It's mostly a single lane secondary road until you get close to the city. As you get closer it becomes brick and them it becomes stone when you are in Tiradentes proper. Even with a modern car the road kinda sucks but the locals want to keep it that way. It keeps it authentic and I agree. Walking around it much easier and the city is so small that you don't need to use your car.

During Carnaval this city is wall to wall people. My wife talks about a time her and her girlfriends rented a house down here and had a blast. It was strange for her to be back with no one there, she could actually see the city and all of it's glory.

Tiradentes moved to Ouro Preto later on and it's a place I visited on my first trip to Brasil. Photos to come in another blog!

Over the last 2 years I've been able to do many things.
Starting with the Fall of 2008 I got to spend the last month of my mother's life with her. Cancer is not something you want. Spending time with her at our home until the final days in the Auburn Hospice House. I am blessed to have the time with her and our family.
We move on from and live life as she would want us to. Be strong and always enjoy each moment you have.
First trip was back home with my love. Next off was Austin City Limits. The Drive By Truckers are on stage singing 18 wheels of love and I've never heard it. The singer tells 'the rest of the story' and while surrounded my thousands of screaming fans I'm crying my eyes out with sadness and joy all wrap up in one. It was such a magical moment. Later they have an autograph session and I have the band sign my Mammoth Mountain koozie. I tell them the story of my mom and they were blown away. They said thanks for sharing that story. Good experience and have that koozie holding my cold beers the rest of the festival.

2008/2009 New Year's Eve with your closest 3 million friends on Copacabana Beach in Rio. Dancing on the beach until 4am and the party continues even after we leave.

Great trip overall - got to meet my future wife's family for the first time.
April 15, 2009 Tax Day!! For us - it was our wedding day at the local courthouse. Just us, our love, and our desire to be together. Later that day, my new wife goes to work.
Summer brings many trips to dog beach in Huntington Beach. She is seven pounds but has no problem running with the big dogs!

July is here and our honeymoon is starting. Flying into Anchorage you get to see the wonders of nature. We land, see our close friends, and head up to Denali. We have our Westways AAA magazine with us and have our picture taken with it at Wonderlake. We later send the photo into AAA and they publish the photo in a future magazine.
Seward, Exit Glacier, Whittier, and so many other beautiful places visited during our time in God's country.

Wanting a repeat of Alaska we head to Sequoia National Park. I love trees. If you love trees you need to enjoy some quality time around a sequoia. Nothing like being humbled my nature.

As Fall approached a best friend has a wedding in Maine- the best time to be there. Fall foliage is in full force and the colors are amazing. After the wedding on the coast of Maine we head to Acadia National Park for some sightseeing. Our family plans a party to celebrate our wedding and then back to California.

Winter 2009 is filled with skiing trips. My wife has a package to learn how to ski and after 3 lessons she is the newest Peakaboo Street. Ok not really but she is comfortable on the snow and looks great in her outfit.

More trips to the beach with Pippy for some exercise.

2010 has been about preparing for another trip to Brasil. One month starting in May for our official wedding and family visits. Two short flights - LA to Miami and Miami to Belo Horizonte and we are home. A friend's wedding the next day and then daily visits/dinners/lunches to catch up with her many friends. She has so much love down here that it amazes me that she gives it all up for me.
Soon a honeymoon in Salvador, Bahia and I have my koozie. See you on the beach!
